The Health and Safety Unit

The University of Birmingham is committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all its employees, students and any other people who may be affected by its activities. This commitment is expressed in a Health and Safety Policy Statement.

The Health and Safety Unit role is  to assist the University in the development and implementation of University Health and Safety Policy and to provide expert advice.

The Health and Safety Unit has scientific and technical expertise provided by professionally qualified advisers. The work of the Unit is directed by an Assistant Director of Human Resources.

The Unit works closely with other departments in the University, in particular Occupational Health, and with external agencies.

The University's Health and Safety intranet pages are maintained by the Health and Safety Unit. These pages, for which university (ADF) login is required, provide staff and students with details of all the University's health and safety arrangements, information and guidance on many specific matters and links to external sources of help and information. Some of this information and help is also available for external access.
